The Lounge: your always-on IRC client

The Lounge is a web-based IRC client that stays connected to chat networks even when your browser is closed, so you never miss messages. Two things about it are specific to how it runs here.

Signing in

The Lounge is private — it is not open for anyone to register. Your account was created for you at deploy, so sign in with the username and password shown on the app's Credentials panel in your Caliber Node dashboard.

Connecting to a network

Once you are signed in, add the IRC network you want to join:

1. Click Connect (or the + to add a network).
2. Fill in the server details. For most public networks:
   • Name: anything you like (e.g. "Libera")
   • Server: the network's address, for example irc.libera.chat
   • Port: 6697, and tick TLS / Use secure connection
   • Nick: the nickname you want on IRC
   • Channels: the rooms to auto-join, e.g. #linux #selfhosted
3. Click Connect.

The Lounge now stays connected to that network for you. Close the browser, come back tomorrow, and your conversations are still there.

Adding more users

Because The Lounge is private, the only way to create another login is from a shell — there is no signup page. Open the Console tab on the app's page and run:

thelounge add theirname

It will prompt for a password. That person can then sign in at the same address with those credentials. Repeat for each additional user.

Good to know

• Give the first deploy a moment to settle before signing in.
• The Lounge keeps its history on the app's disk, so a snapshot before a big change is cheap insurance.
