Peergos is here: encrypted file storage on Caliber Node
Peergos is now available in Caliber Node Cloud Apps. Deploy your own encrypted file storage, create your account, and start uploading through your browser—with no dedicated IP add-on required.
It is a useful option for people who want a private home for documents and other files without setting up and maintaining the application server themselves.
What is Peergos?
Peergos is an open-source platform for end-to-end encrypted storage and sharing. Encryption happens on your device before files are uploaded; the storage server receives encrypted data rather than readable file contents.
For everyday use, you get a browser-based drive: upload files, organize folders, open supported previews, and share files with other people. Secret sharing links let recipients access selected files without giving them your account login. Treat those links as access credentials and share them only with the intended recipients.
Your instance, without the server setup
Our Cloud Apps template sets up the Peergos application, persistent storage, and HTTPS access together. You get your own instance at a platform address and a private, single-use signup link to create its initial account.
The signup link appears with your app credentials in the panel. After you use it, it cannot be reused to register another account. Keep it private until you have completed registration.
Your Peergos password is separate from your Caliber Node panel login. Save it in a password manager: Caliber Node cannot recover a lost Peergos password or decrypt your stored files for you.
Shared IPv4 and IPv6 are included
You do not need to buy a dedicated address to deploy Peergos. Our integration uses the app host's shared IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity, with separate peer ports assigned to each Peergos instance.
Your browser uses the app's HTTPS address as usual. The platform handles the peer networking configuration behind it, so there are no router rules or port-forwarding settings for you to assemble.
What you need to get started
The catalog minimum is 2 CPU cores and 2 GB of RAM, in line with the Peergos self-hosting recommendations. You also need enough storage allocated for the files you plan to keep. Some of that allocation is reserved for application data and overhead, so the file quota shown inside Peergos is lower than the total disk allocation.
- Open the Cloud Apps catalog in your Caliber Node panel and choose Peergos.
- Select an eligible capacity subscription and allocate the required resources and storage.
- Deploy the app and allow several minutes for its initial network synchronization.
- Open the private signup link from the app's credentials and create your Peergos account.
- Upload a file and try opening or sharing it.
What we tested—and the current limits
Our launch checks covered account creation, file uploads, PDF viewing, read-only sharing, and downloads. We compared a downloaded test file with the original and confirmed an exact match. We also verified real peer connections over both shared IPv4 and IPv6 using TCP and QUIC.
The current template uses a fixed platform address; custom domains are not supported. Initial synchronization can take several minutes, so the first startup takes longer than a typical restart.
