Singapore, Amsterdam or Dallas: where should your apps run?
Caliber Node Cloud Apps can run in Dallas, Amsterdam or Singapore. The right choice is not always the nearest city to you: it depends on your users, the systems your app talks to and how much data it transfers.
You choose an eligible region per app, using the same capacity subscription. Here is a practical way to decide without relying on a blanket promise that one location is always faster.
Start with the people using the app
If most users are in North America, Dallas is a sensible starting point to test. For a predominantly European audience, start by evaluating Amsterdam. For an Asia-Pacific audience, Singapore app hosting gives you another regional option.
These are starting points, not performance guarantees. ISP routing, peering, congestion and proxy paths can change the result. Two people in the same country may reach the same server by very different routes.
Then look at the app's other connections
An automation platform calling a distant API still waits for that API. A file-sharing app feels the effects of upload throughput as well as latency. A monitoring app tells you how a service responds from the monitor's location, which is not necessarily how every customer experiences it.
Choose a representative task: open a document, upload a file, run an automation or load a page that cannot be served entirely from cache. Compare that task across the locations you are considering. A ping is helpful context, but it does not reproduce a browser request or a complete workflow.
Compare transfer allowances before deploying
Singapore uses a separate monthly transfer allowance from Dallas and Amsterdam. That Singapore allowance is shared by your Singapore apps within a subscription, not granted separately to every app. Uploads and downloads both count, and allowances reset on the first of each month in UTC.
Regular plans have tier-based Singapore allowances. Existing Summer subscriptions retain 100 GB per month in Singapore, but those sale plans are no longer offered for new orders. Extra Singapore transfer costs $3 per TB per month, where 1 TB is 1,024 GB; it renews monthly independently of your capacity billing term.
For the current figures, compare the Singapore plan table with the full Cloud App pricing page. An occasional scheduling app and a heavily used file-sharing service can need very different transfer budgets even when their memory requirements look similar.
Check product and app eligibility
Singapore currently offers Cloud Apps, not our self-managed Virtual Servers. Virtual Servers are available in Dallas. Dedicated IPs cannot currently be purchased in Singapore, so catalog apps that require a dedicated IP cannot deploy there.
The deployment screen is the place to check current region availability for your selected app and allocation. Do not assume that every app or every resource size will be available in every location at all times.
A location is not a data-residency guarantee
Selecting Singapore, Amsterdam or Dallas chooses the location of the application workload. It does not automatically place every related service there. The control panel, backups, email delivery, proxies and third-party integrations can involve other regions.
If you have a contractual or compliance requirement about where data is stored or processed, ask us to confirm the relevant services before buying. A region label alone is not enough to answer that question.
A short checklist before you choose
- Identify where most users and important integrations are located.
- Use the network page and test addresses to compare routes from representative connections.
- Test a realistic app task, not only a speed test against an unrelated endpoint.
- Review included transfer, app eligibility and available capacity.
- Confirm any data-location requirements separately.
