Find your storage credentials
- Sign in to the customer panel.
- Open Storage β Backup Storage.
- Select Manage storage on the account you want.
- Find the Connection panel.
| Field | What to enter in your client |
|---|---|
| Host | The displayed hostname or IP address |
| Port | The account's assigned port, not a guessed port 22 |
| Username | storage |
| SFTP path | /data |
| Host key | The server fingerprint to compare on first connection |
| Authentication | Your private SSH key matching a public key saved in this account |
There is no Backup Storage password to retrieve. Your portal password is not an SSH password. A prompt for your key passphrase unlocks the private key on your computer; it is separate from your portal login.
Connection details appear after payment. If the account is still provisioning, wait for Active before connecting. Refresh the page if the host fingerprint is not available yet.
Save an alias for command-line toolsβ
The guides use the alias cn-backup. Add this to ~/.ssh/config on Linux/macOS or %USERPROFILE%\.ssh\config on Windows. Replace YOUR_STORAGE_HOST and YOUR_ASSIGNED_PORT with the values above:
Host cn-backup
HostName YOUR_STORAGE_HOST
Port YOUR_ASSIGNED_PORT
User storage
IdentityFile ~/.ssh/caliber-storage
IdentitiesOnly yes
Then connect:
sftp cn-backup
Compare the offered SHA256 fingerprint with Host key in the panel before accepting it. This saves the host in your local known_hosts file. A changed-key warning on a later connection should be checked with support before replacing the saved entry.
Paths differ between protocolsβ
| Tool | Account directory |
|---|---|
| SFTP, modern SCP, rclone SFTP, restic SFTP | /data |
| rsync and git-annex rsync remote | Relative paths such as backups/ or annex/, already rooted inside your storage |
| Borg | /data/borg |
Use sftp cn-backup to test access. An interactive ssh cn-backup shell is not the connection test for this service.
