Connect with SFTP, FileZilla or WinSCP

Get your connection details and save a public SSH key first. Choose SFTP, not FTP or FTPS.

FileZilla

  1. Open File β†’ Site Manager β†’ New site.
  2. Set Protocol to SFTP – SSH File Transfer Protocol.
  3. Enter the panel's Host and Port.
  4. Choose Key file for the logon type, enter storage as the user, and select your private key file.
  5. Connect. Enter the key's passphrase if prompted and verify the server fingerprint.
  6. Open /data in the remote pane. Drag a local test file into it, then download that file to a different local folder.

If your client asks to convert a private key format, save the converted file locally and keep it private. The panel still receives only the public key.

WinSCP

  1. Create a New Site and select SFTP.
  2. Enter the host, assigned port and username storage.
  3. Open Advanced β†’ SSH β†’ Authentication and select your private key, or use your configured SSH agent.
  4. Save the site and log in. Verify the fingerprint against the panel.
  5. Browse to /data. Use the local and remote panes to upload or download.

Terminal

After configuring the cn-backup SSH alias:

sftp cn-backup

At the sftp> prompt:

pwd
cd /data
ls
mkdir documents
put ./example.txt /data/documents/example.txt
get /data/documents/example.txt ./downloaded-example.txt
bye

Local paths refer to your computer. Remote paths refer to the storage account. Use quotes around names containing spaces. For a directory upload, use put -r ./photos /data/; download with get -r /data/photos ./downloaded-photos.

For interrupted large files, OpenSSH SFTP provides reput and reget. Resume only the same unchanged file. Check the downloaded result before relying on it.

Replace or remove a file

Uploading to an existing remote filename may overwrite it. Download a copy first if you need to preserve the current version. Delete only the files you intend to remove, using the client's remote pane or SFTP rm. Repository directories managed by Borg, restic or git-annex should be maintained using that tool, not by deleting random repository files in SFTP.

See WinSCP’s authentication settings for its key-file and agent options.
