How Cloud Apps subscriptions work
A Cloud Apps subscription gives you a pool of CPU, RAM, and storage. You divide that capacity between your apps when you deploy them.
You do not need a separate subscription for every app. You can deploy another app whenever the selected subscription has enough available capacity.
One plan, multiple apps
Each app reserves the resources you assign to it. The deployment page shows how much CPU, RAM, and disk is still available on your subscription.
For example, if your subscription has 2 GB of RAM and you allocate 512 MB to one app, 1.5 GB remains for other apps. CPU and disk must also fit within the plan. This is an allocation example, not a sizing recommendation for a particular app.
An app being idle does not mean its assigned resources are available for another deployment. Use the panel's Available capacity figures when planning your next app.
Use different locations
Choose a location for each app during deployment. Apps on the same eligible subscription can run in different locations; you do not need to buy a new plan just to select another supported location.
The location picker shows the options available to your selected subscription. Some regional or legacy plans have location restrictions. Regional transfer allowances can also differ: review the information shown for your chosen location.
Choosing a location deploys that app there. It does not create copies in other regions or automatically move your existing apps.
If you have more than one subscription
Choose the subscription the new app should use. An app draws its capacity from that subscription only; spare resources on separate subscriptions are not automatically combined.
For example, 512 MB free on each of two subscriptions does not provide a single app with 1 GB of available RAM.
Check your capacity
- Open Cloud App subscriptions.
- Check the plan and its billing status. Capacity awaiting payment must be activated before it can be used.
- Open Deploy a Cloud App to see the available capacity for the subscription you select.
Deploying an app within an active subscription's capacity has no additional app deployment charge. Optional paid add-ons and any additional transfer charges are separate; check their displayed terms before ordering.
How much should you assign?
Start with the requirements shown for your chosen app. Assigning too little RAM can prevent it from starting, even if the deployment form accepts the allocation.
Leave some capacity available if you want to add more apps later. Storage can be increased after deployment, but cannot be reduced, so choose it carefully.
If an app does not fit, select another subscription with enough capacity or add capacity before continuing.
Next: Deploy your first app.
