Configure outgoing app email

An application sending password-reset messages is different from running a public mail server. Check which function you need before choosing an app or connection type.

Outgoing email

  1. Open the app’s Mail section if available.
  2. Review its current mail status and any setup requirements.
  3. Create or reveal the SMTP credential through the offered controls.
  4. Configure the application using the host, port, security mode and credentials shown, if the recipe does not apply them automatically.
  5. Send a test from the application and inspect its mail logs or error.

Where a separate SMTP provider is used, follow that provider’s sender/domain verification steps. Use only the environment variable names or configuration fields supported by the app.

Troubleshooting

Check the exact sender, SMTP host, port, encryption mode and authentication result. Also check spam folders and whether the recipient address is valid. A delivered password-reset email does not prove a public inbound mail service is configured.

Keep SMTP passwords private. Rotating a credential can stop sending until the application uses the replacement value.

Public mail servers need appropriate networking and DNS. An ordinary Cloudflare web tunnel does not expose public SMTP or IMAP ports. See ports and connection types.
